The TrueSport Coaching Education Program invites coaches from all levels of play to refresh their intentions, continue their education, and prepare athletes for long-term success on and off the field. The Four-Course Bundle includes the following modules:
Your Coaching Philosophy & Ethics
Athletes face a multitude of challenges, such as the internal pressure to win, living up to unreasonable external expectations, temptations to find or succumb to taking shortcuts or even cheating, unhealthy body image, coming back from injury, staying injury-free, or trying to land an important scholarship. It can be just as difficult for coaches to manage this array of challenges as it is for athletes. In this course, you will be reminded of these challenges and equipped with techniques to help your athletes overcome these issues and identify positive, healthy solutions. You will also learn how to create, build, and cultivate a personalized coaching philosophy, employ decision-making strategies and quality coaching methods to navigate difficult situations with athletes and parents, understand the principles of what makes a TrueSport team culture, and put the TrueSport Coach Code of Conduct into practice. Learn More.
The Story with Energy Drinks
For years, energy drinks have been ubiquitous with sport, leading many athletes to believe that the more they drink, the more energy they will have. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Through firsthand accounts of athletes who have become seriously ill from supplement and energy drink use, you will learn about their potentially devastating consequences. In this course, you will also gain an awareness of the complexities surrounding energy drinks, learn the differences between energy drinks and sports drinks, and become equipped with strategies to best educate and guide your athletes to improving their performances naturally, while encouraging healthy nutrition choices. Learn More.
The Story Behind Supplements
In today’s “quick fix culture,” athletes at all stages of competition are familiar with dietary supplements. And, many athletes believe that the more they take, the better they will perform. However, dietary supplements can pose risks. In this course, you will gain an awareness of the complex supplement landscape, recognize potential dangers and red flags, encourage healthy nutrition choices, and learn how to educate your athletes and their parents on how to minimize their risk, should they choose to use supplements. Learn more.
A Safe, Healthy, & Clean Sporting Environment
Athletes often turn to performance-enhancing drugs to get ahead. Unfortunately, performance-enhancing substance abuse is not limited to specific sports, age groups, or levels, and it is not limited to steroids and human growth hormone. Prescription medications, stimulants, inhalers, and other medications are often abused to gain a competitive advantage. This course provides an overview of performance-enhancing substances and methods, including the side effects and dangers of their use. You will master how to look for warning signs and examine some of the reasons why athletes resort to these methods. Through scenario-based learning, you will become armed with tools to prepare you to successfully navigate this difficult topic with your athletes. Learn more.
