For years, energy drinks have been ubiquitous with sport, leading many athletes to believe that the more they drink, the more energy they will have. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Through firsthand accounts of athletes who have become seriously ill from supplement and energy drink use, you will learn about their potentially devastating consequences. In this course, you will also gain an awareness of the complexities surrounding energy drinks, learn the differences between energy drinks and sports drinks, and become equipped with strategies to best educate and guide your athletes to improving their performances naturally, while encouraging healthy nutrition choices.
During the exploration of the module, you will learn to:
- Understand your role as a coach when it comes to educating athletes and parents.
- Identify the risks and dangers of energy drinks.
- Differentiate between energy drinks and sports drinks.
- Understand common reasons young athletes may choose energy drinks.
Seat time: Approximately 20 minutes of seat time, plus video components. The learning path for this course includes a pre-course questionnaire, course, and post-course questionnaire.
Evaluation: You will be evaluated on the assignments within the module through knowledge check points and a course summary quiz. A score of at least 80% on the summary quiz is required to successfully complete the module.
TrueSport Coaching Field Experience (optional): Complete all four TrueSport Coaching Education Program online modules as a pre-requisite to completing the TrueSport Coaching Field Experience. Field Experience materials are included with all course registrations.
